The young lady (whom I'll call Kate in this blog), had her own way of keeping Lo from running into the streets even with speeding oncoming traffic. She kept Lo at the corner by feigning complete ignorance of the street signs. Where Lo would have began walking at her slow pace as the red hand flashed in warning, Kate interrupted her with, "What does the blinking red hand mean?"
Lo suddenly would take on a motherly nurturing stance and teach Kate that the blinking red hand "means that we should wait at this corner until it's safe to cross." And then as if to show her how it works, Lo would patiently wait at the corner until the light turned green for pedestrians. Kate continued to do this under any threat that Lo would jay-walk. Except, at one corner, another woman that happened to be more "ignorant" than the first turned to Kate and said with an incredulous tone, "Honey, that red blinking hand means don't walk."
Kate didn't respond in case Lo found her answer insulting. That's taking one for the care team, Kate:)
